Introduction

Formed in 2001 through the merger of the Wachovia and First Union corporations, this financial services provider can trace its heritage back to the late 19th century. Today, you can find consumer credit products offered by this bank online.

Set up a Wachovia Bank Account

Steps

Remember that you must have a bank account with Wachovia to apply for this institution's credit cards. You can apply by visiting a Wachovia bank or going to Wachovia's website (see Resources below).

Choose an account type by clicking on the corresponding link. A more detailed list of products offered under this type of account will appear.

Select the "Banking" link from the Wachovia.com homepage. You will be taken to an itemized list of account types.

Click on the "Apply Now" link for the account you wish to set up.

Have your social security number or federal ID number handy before you hit the "Continue" button.

Provide the required personal information in the correct fields and select the "Next" button to continue your application. You must specify what type of identification you will be providing, as well as your U.S. residency status.

Select the corresponding radial button to apply for an account as a "New Customer" and hit the "Next" button.

Decide between the additional services such as a check card and overdraft protection before hitting the "Next" button to review Wachovia's terms and conditions.

Complete the application and keep your account number handy for your credit card application.
